Why is Lemon one of my Daily Non-Negotiables?

People often ask me why.

In both modern wellness and Ayurveda, there is a common belief that health begins with supporting digestion and creating balance within the body.

Ayurveda teaches that many health challenges begin when digestion becomes sluggish and the body accumulates excess “ama” (toxins or undigested waste). The goal is to create an internal environment where the body can function at its best.

Lemon has been valued for centuries as a refreshing way to begin the day.

Here’s why I use it:

• It encourages me to hydrate first thing in the morning. We often wake dehydrated first thing in the morning. Coffee is not the way to start the day.

• Lemon essential oil contains naturally occurring limonene, a plant compound studied for its antioxidant properties that help protect our cells from everyday oxidative stress.

• It supports healthy digestive function and leaves me feeling refreshed before breakfast.

• It complements a lifestyle focused on whole foods, quality sleep, movement and reducing stress.

One interesting point is that although lemons taste acidic, essential oil is made from the peel of the lemon not the juice. Many natural health traditions, including Ayurveda, have long regarded citrus essential oils as supporting balance rather than contributing to excess acidity. Many people find that starting the day with lemon and water is a simple way to support digestive comfort and establish a healthy daily routine.

I’ve learned over the years that wellness isn’t about finding one miracle product.

It’s about daily consistently doing the small things that help your body do what it was designed to do.

That’s why every morning starts with a glass of water, 2 drops of Lemon, and the intention to nourish my body before the day begins.
